Mediterranean Regattas

2008 sees the arrival of Disco Inferno 3, her first Mediterranean outing for you to come join us as an individual is the Rolex Capri Sailing Week on the Isle of Capri in May 2008, if you fancy chartering the whole boat, the choice is yours; Rolex La Giraglia, THE MAXI YACHT ROLEX CUP or Les Voiles De Saint-Tropez, yes, it's all big boat stuff from now on. The new boat is a Bordeaux 60 built by CNB in France.

ROLEX CAPRI WEEK - Capri, Italy

The fourth edition of the Rolex Capri Sailing Week, along with the three IMS World Championships held in these waters, represents the seventh year of collaboration with Rolex and the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. This event which, thanks to Rolex, now marks the “official” opening of the tourist season for the "Blue Isle" as well as the start of the Mediterranean Racing Season. It is held against the stunning backdrop of Capri, whose unique atmosphere lends magic to all of the sailing events held in the Gulf of Naples.

This event is open to four classes, the Farr 40s, Swan 45s, Comets and the "Mini Maxi", yes, that's Disco 3, she slots nicely into the mini maxi class 60foot to 79foot. A maximum of 9 races are to be sailed over 4 days.

Arrive sometime over the weekend (Naples, is the nearest airport and there are ferries across to Capri) and we'll get out on the water Monday & Tuesday for practice, then fly home Sunday 25th and you'll still have Monday to recover as it's a Bank Holiday weekend.

INDIVIDUAL CHARTER
Racing – Up to 12 guests. Racing Sails, 3DL Genoas & Masthead SYM Spinnakers. No furlers, no spin socks and No Accommodation onboard available, boat in complete race trim and ready to fly round the course. We supply 4 race crew in total to help you get to grips with the boat and get us moving as fast as possible. Racing experience not essential, beginners are always welcome and will be put within the team and taken care of by other members of the crew.
Crew shirts - (Individual Place Regattas only) - For each regatta we include ONE crew shirt logoed up with the Disco Inferno man and name plus the regatta. Everyone MUST race in an approved crew shirt so if you think you need more than one then extras can be purchased when you arrive at the regatta. On Disco Inferno we also do breathable Fast Dri crew shirts for racing (non regatta specific) that can be ordered before the event. Details follow nearer the time.
Notes - The price for regattas include racing on Disco or another boat for the regatta, regatta entry fees, moorings, drinking water & lunch on board each day. At all regattas we recommend crew establish a crew kitty to cover meals ashore, beer and also all ashore expenses including onshore expenses of the Skipper & Hostess. WHOLEBOAT CHARTER
Cruising – Loads of fun & not much sweat or stress! Bring up to 6 guests. Cruising Sails Only (Main & Genoa on furler, NO spinnaker). Accommodation for all guests onboard and opportunities for evening meals onboard and a real pampered relaxed regatta experience. No racing experience necessary.
Performance Cruising - 8 -10 Guests. Performance Cruising Sails, genoa on furler and asymmetric spinnaker tacked to the bow and launched from the sock. Accommodation for 6 onboard, some racing experience in the crew is preferable as hoisting, dropping and gybing the spinnaker can be hard work. If you want to party all night but still sail fast then this is for you and your crew.

REGATTA 2

ROLEX GIRAGLIA - St Tropez, France to Genoa, Italy
Whole Boat Charter

On the French sailing scene La Giraglia is one of it's most prestigious races. Having first learnt of this regatta through Rolex five years ago, it's something we've always wanted to do and in 2008 the dates and venue finally work.

Raced every year since 1953 over a variety of similar courses, the ‘Giraglia’ has grown in stature over the years and has now evolved into the Giraglia Rolex Cup, a week long regatta open to all offshore keelboats fitting into the permitted classes. Considered by many to be the ‘Fastnet of the Mediterranean’, the Rolex Giraglia Cup is organised by the Yacht Club Italiano under the supervision of the Federazione Italiana Vela, the Fédération Française de Voile, and with the collaboration of the City of Saint-Tropez, the Yacht Club de France and the Société Nautique de St Tropez, which is the deputed organiser in France.

The Giraglia Rolex Cup is one of the most renowned distance races in the Mediterranean, and the race has been a tradition for European sailors for over 50 years. The event runs over a full week in June, with inshore races in the Gulf of St Tropez for the first three days. On the fourth day, the race starts off the historic port of St. Tropez, France. The fleet then heads through the Ile du Levant and across the sea to round the Giraglia, a rocky outcrop just to the north of Corsica, before racing for the finish off Genoa, Italy, for a total distance of 243 nautical miles.

REGATTA 3

MAXI YACHT ROLEX CUP - Porto Cervo, Sardinia, Italy

The Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup is probably the event most synonymous with the Sardinian sailing paradise of Porto Cervo. Since 1980 this has been the preferred venue for competition between the world’s biggest racing boats. Attracted by the flat water, generally excellent breeze and stunning mountainous backdrops, other large boats are drawn to accompany the hottest racing maxis and compete at their own level with like-minded people.

The Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup race week traditionally includes a variety of racecourses along the stunning north-eastern coast of Sardinia. The courses are designed to make best use of the daily weather conditions. Winds in September can be anywhere between light thermally-induced sea breezes to the famous Mistral, which can blow from the northwest at up to 45 knots at times. Maxis are big enough and well-equipped enough to handle most of the wind and weather seen in the north of Sardinia, which means the event organiser, the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, has no fear in sending the fleet out to race in just about all conditions. Often the courses will take the fleet through La Maddalena Archipelago just to the north of Porto Cervo. Narrow straits, rocky outcrops, shifting winds and tight competition, set against one of the most spectacular racing backgrounds imaginable, test the crews’ nerve, skill and speed to the utmost.

As Maxi boats are big, and hence fast, races never last more than a few hours at a time even though significant distances are often covered before the fleet returns to their moorings in the idyllic setting of Porto Cervo. Ashore every evening the big boats with their numerous crews and guests enjoy the special Sardinian hospitality that most people only dream about. Porto Cervo – during one week in September with the Maxi fleet and it's crews – is a unique mix which provides the perfect setting to observe these dream boats, lucky people and a genuine sailing atmosphere.

REGATTA 4

LES VOILES DE SAINT-TROPEZ - South of France

Back in the South of France, join us for Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez the end of the Mediterranean Summer Circuit. What a way to finish the season, in a class of about 30boats the smallest being a badly handicapped 35footer and the biggest being 117feet, we are sized just under the middle of the fleet and I can't tell you how exciting it is to find yourself on the start line with some of the fastest and most talked about boats in the World.

The regatta lasts for 6 days, with day 4 as a rest day. They set a selection of around 25 courses along the coast, which sees you out on the water all day everyday, whatever the weather, although they don't send you out when a mistral is predicted so don't worry about that, they pick 1 course a day.

Accommodation - You need to arrive on Saturday so we can get out on the water on Sunday for a few hours practice, leaving your afternoon free to wander round the streets of Saint-Tropez and then fly back the following Sunday. We rent a luxury villa outside Saint-Tropez town for the week so we spend a few evenings up there with the BBQ fired up, admiring the view across the infinity pool and over Cavalier Sur Mer. Price of Villa is for 1 person sharing a twin room with en-suite shower.

Whole Boat Charter - These are "all up to you" weeks, we will supply the boat with Skipper & Mate/Hostess to the specification you have booked (Cruising, Performance Cruising or Racing), you meet all the other costs involved plus a damage deposit which will be required if you wish to helm.
