Partying in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria.... 24hours to go...
Oh my Goodness, can you believe that at 1PM tomorrow, Sunday, we'll be crossing the start line and will have touched land for the last time until we reach St Lucia!!!!
Its been a strange week here in Las Palmas as there has been a lot of wind, particularly on the South of the Island where absolute chaos happened when the storm hit. Luckily here in the North, it was only about 45minutes long, and while Matt and I sat in a cafe, back at the anchorage next to the Marina, all the boats dragged their anchors and started heading for the rocks. Luckily there was enough people around to hold them off most of the rocks, it was all quite wild but no one was hurt.
The Boom went off with our friend Ricardo, in two pieces and came back in one, he has done a fantastic job, far better than was expected. Three Cheers for Ricardo HIP HIP HURRAY.
Also this week we say goodbye to Ali, who has decided not to join us for the trip as she suffers severe seasickness and it would be quite dangerous for her if she did throw up for 20 days.
The Crew have been busy creating huge hangovers, which saw Paul and Suzannah close to death Sunday as they partied through till 10.30AM. Then with our Pirate Party on Wednesday night, Matt, Matt and myself put on our pirate accessories and were ready to party. Oh, did we party, until we were poisoned with Rum and Orange by a girl who goes by the name of Lisa, we'll be avoiding her at a bar in the future!! So it went from good to bad over a drink, but luckily Matt A took the pressure off of myself and Matt B by being that little worse than us!!! However on a hangover level there wasn't much difference between the two of us and we both ventured off the boat for lunch at around 4PM, oops. That night we then ventured back to the steakhouse for the perfect hangover cure, followed by bed at 11pm.
We saw the arrival of Craig, who is on El Syd, Matt's old racing pal from Serendip, so we've joined him for a few drinks at every bar we've been too!! Not sure who is stalking who!! Unfortunately we didn't see the arrival of Marc the Swimmer, he is obviously enjoying the English Winter too much!!! Last night we ventured back to La Romana but without our Pirate gear, for our farewell drinks. What a treat it was a free bar for 2hours!!! Our new friend Lisa found us again, and was luckily on the beer as well. Matt dragged me home at midnight as we had a big list of things to get done today. All is complete as I sit at the chart table ready to go to dinner for our last meal ashore for 20days.
Unfortunately the website will be untouched until our arrival but you can follow our position, that will be updated daily, across the Atlantic by clicking on this link www.worldcruising.net
