Thursday 2 January
Our first night in - THE EARLY ARRIVALS PARTY...Check us out! Shame the party wasn't all that, it was around a pool with only rum punch and plenty of mosquitoes. So we wondered on from there round to Zee-bar, a new bar in the Jolly Harbour complex, we tucked into our dinners and then moved inside to the couches for coffee and awaited the arrival of Mark & Charlie. (Mark & Charlie sailed across on Fidgets Five, a Contessa 32, with Mark's Dad, Charles, they arrived the week before us on the Blue Water Rally). I think Anna managed to stay awake to say a few words and then bang, she was dead, Karen lasted a little longer but we were all very exhausted so retired shortly after our coffee.
I woke up around 6.30AM, I was sure I could hear voices and one of them was an British girl's, well there weren't many in the rally and when I popped my head out the hatch, on the other dock was Intuition. Matt & I got dressed quickly and wandered over to greet them, we decided we meet up for lunch after a tidy up.
The girls rose shortly after we got back and we enjoyed breakfast round a table! Then we were off, cleaning duties were issued and we all set to work making Disco beautiful again. Lunchtime finally arrived and we wandered back to Peter's for lunch. It was great to catch up with Intuition, they were clearly exhausted like we had been the day before but they still managed to entertain us with tales of their crossing, how one night they went vertical and they all dropped out the other end of their bunks, their love for chicken curry and how to conserve battery power!
Lisa & Brett went and checked-in to Sunsail, while Suki, Chris, Martin & Ben went to the nearest hotel to the boat for their first night. We met with them that night for BBQ night at the BBR Sportif where they also had a steel band playing. Martin fell asleep at the table, (change from it being me!) so he made a quick exit with the rest of us shortly behind.
Wednesday was the BIG day, Matt and I boarded Disco Inferno 1, we had both prepared ourselves for the worst so I think we were both pleasantly surprised that she just confirmed the work we already knew about. That night it was to the Dogwatch, for a delicious burger and home fries. Matt, Anna & I stayed for a few beers but clearly all this socialising was making us tired, so we headed for bed, while Karen & Tash were left to party hard....
Thursday we motored round to English Harbour. Anna decided to entertain us all...again! Her hat blew off, Matt turned back to get it, Anna kept pointing at it while I got the boat hook out. I got stuck on the shrouds so passed the hook to Anna, who completely missed it on the port side, it went under the boat and she chased it down the starboard side, still missed it, at which point my sides were about to split and then splash. Anna was swimming after her hat. Matt had told her to jump, she replied 'Can I?' and was gone. we picked her up in Burn Rubber Baby and then pulled her alongside. On our arrival in English Harbour it was a quick shower and put together of the NEW Burn Rubber before jumping in a taxi up to Shirley Heights, we just missed the sunset but the steel band were good. We then rushed back down to Trappas, our favourite restaurant in English Harbour, prices have risen slightly since last season but its still the best and most value for money around. We sung the menu to Christmas Carols and had the most amusing night out....Anna why is it you wore a bracelet rather than a necklace with that top????
Friday, we tracked down Denise & Norma, it was good to see them again, its just good to be back in the Dockyard.... After a runaround day we had dinner onboard and all hit the sack at an early hour. Saturday the girls went off to explore St Johns. I tidied the boat and Matt got ready for the BBQ. The girls arrived back with loads of goodies for the grill. It was FANTASTIC, we munched our way through burgers, beef & shrimp kebabs, & chicken pieces. Then it was time to get ready for Carwash at Abracadabras. The girls had bought themselves some two piece outfits that had plenty of mojo..... The place was packed, Matt & I partied our pants off on the stage while the girls sprawled themselves on the bed before coming over to join us. Tash received the best chat-up line of all time 'I want to F**k you baby!' she replied 'Thanks, that's very kind of you but I'm fine.'
The girls just about managed to get up for lunch, we went to The Inn on Galleon Beach for a bite to eat before catching a taxi up to Shirleys for the Sunday night Jump-Up. What a night, the Intuition crew were all present too, so the 11 of us jumped the night away, danced round the handbag and laughed and laughed.
Monday we motored round to Non-Such Bay, home of Harmony Hall. We managed a quick dip before heading in for our lunch date with Intuition. Six hours later we were still at the table and had just ordered dessert!! It was delightful, we all munched and munched like we'd been starved for weeks and then still made room for the famous Brown's Bay Banana. When we left, we had to say goodbye to Martin who was flying out that night and back to London, the first to go and he certainly wasn't looking forward to it especially knowing that we're all still here!
Tuesday morning we motored over to the reef by Green Island, Matt pumped up the canoe, and off we went, my skills have definitely improved since that afternoon in Palma.... Anna & Tash were on the beach so we paddled over to them, and oh, they're so funny, they capsized us, so we made them canoe back to the boat while we swam! Karen was kidnapped by a Scots Jock who was on the neighbouring boat, so we headed back to English without her. For dinner we ventured to The Last Lemming, a very good idea as the food was scrumptious, we even ate sushi!
Wednesday, Prize Giving, we motored back to Jolly Harbour for the evening entertainment. We took Tash & Anna onto little Disco, I think they were relieved they came this year and not last! Anna wandered off to find out the details for the evening venue and came back grinning from ear to ear as she had seen the results.
WE CAME 5TH OVERALL
YAY, YAY, YAY we rocked. We didn't get a prize and the divas were very disappointed that Matt didn't even get any recognition for crossing the Atlantic with four girls, at least we're proud of him. I'm so proud of my boyfriend... Andrew Bishop, man in charge of World Cruising even did a television interview, don't worry the Disco Divas got well in there, the 4 of us shimmied behind him to show off the Disco men on the back of our shirts, unfortunately we never found out if we made it onto TV. We dined with Intuition that night, and the girls made plans to join them at Sunsail the following day.
I couldn't believe Thursday morning had arrived, the girls were busy packing ready to leave Disco for the last time. We moved onto the fuel dock to fill up the tanks and heave off those oversized bags! We hugged and kissed, it was a really sad moment as we realised our adventure and time was over.
Disco Divas - it was emotional, it was the best and I hope you'll come see us again soon, as you are greatly missed.
On to Christmas on Disco
