Going back to Grenada this year was a must, not just to try and defend our title but to support Grenada in its time of need after being hit by Hurricane Ivan last September.

Paul King, last year's winner, our charterer joined Disco in Union Island with his friend, Estelle - 'Whatshername'. The run down the dock was a wet one as the heavens opened and it rained solidly for a good hour. The wind blew through the night and by morning it had cleared up and we ventured off to Petit St Vincent for the night, followed by a night in Carriacou and then off to Grenada.

We berthed Disco in True Blue Bay and the crew arrived over the next few days. Practice day was the windiest day of the week with about 20 knots of breeze, that was the last we saw of the wind!

Day One saw a slow race round to Grand Anse Beach we took line honours but Enzyme, a Henderson 30 and Whistler, a J105 beat us on corrected time. We then bobbed around for a few hours while we waited for the rest of the fleet to finish. Race Two was eventually started and was a short windward leeward and Race Three took us back round to True Blue Bay. The wind was very light and we were lucky to get round the headland with Enzyme and had a close finish with them. We were 3rd at the end of the day.

Day Two brought a little more breeze, with around 12-15knots Disco finally picked up the pace. We had just one race and starting after the Cruising Class we had caught the trailing boat at the first windward mark, unfortunately there was a collision between us and Enzyme and the bare boat sailed away not understanding what all the chaos had been about! We had called the overlap, Enzyme were happy with that and were going up, suddenly they came back down into us with a nasty crunch as his stanchions pierced through his deck. The bare boat had not giving them water. Anyway, we made it round the mark and went on to win the race on the water and on corrected time. Unfortunately the collision went to the Protest Room and saw both us and Enzyme get a DSQ! Not the result we had been expecting especially after having to wait 2 hours for the jury to turn up!

More light winds on Day Three, saw the fleet bobbing around in all directions everyone trying to get that puff of breeze first. The wind didn't rise above 10knots that day and saw us 5th & 3rd on corrected time, not good with our DSQ from the previous day.

Day Four and the breeze was back, well after the first race of the day, it was instead of the pursuit race, so was just for fun and gave us a little warm up. We were hot in the 2nd and 3rd races seeing us take line honours in both by a healthy lead and gave us two 1sts on corrected. At the end of the day it saw us 3rd Overall but after a fine days racing the crew was on a real high, had there ben more wind the trophy was definitely within our grasp, had we been without the DSQ, the trophy would be elsewhere, oh well, we had a great time and we didn't let this information spoil our triumph. And when the results were read out, Disco Inferno came pumping out of the speakers, Yeah Baby Yeah, Groovy Baby!
