What a week. Two weeks later I feel I'm almost recovered. The Brown Eyed Girl Team were just amazing, so full of enthusiasm and lots of fun. The began with a spot of cruising with the whole gang. Our first stop was just over to Copper Island where we had lunch and a swim. That night we ventured off to Fat Hog Bob's by Beef Island for dinner. What a feast and we loved those Hogwacker cocktails!
Tuesday,
we ventured a little further and went down to the Baths on Virgin Gorda, the
group dispatched off snorkeling and exploring the caves of the Baths. Reports
came back of squid, turtles & sharks! I think the latter was a joke! Then
as the afternoon moved on it was off to The Willy T Floating Bar. A trip to
the BVIs just isn't complete without a few hours there. We rocked up before
sunset and left way after dark. The food was excellent and the entertain was
definitely different. We started with the rum punch, then onto the rum swizzles
and finished up with the dark n stormies and somewhere between came the octabong,
Scott jumping off the top of the bar & the dancing on the shoulders. What
a night!
Wednesday, was a little quieter and we sailed round to The Bitter End and tucked into a banquet for lunch. That night we went up to the villa for a great BBQ dinner and then some of us ventured off to Bomba's surf shack. Its been a few years since we've ventured that way and we were almost disappointed to see that the polaroid's had faded! The pants were all still hanging high, and the tea was definitely overrated. They said have only 2, so we had 3 and we really didn't feel the magic! Although Dani, Artie, Benny & David got back to villa and jumped in the pool and Artie then had the great idea to go and smack Tim' ass! I'll spare you the details but I think Artie got the bigger shock!
Thursday,
practice went well and we finished early to get over to Nanny Cay for the first
of the parties. We ate Dinner a Peg Legs who cooked a great steak
for
those who like them rare, Matt & I were very jealous as we opted for the
pasta! Doh.
The racing was actually over 3 days, which meant we didn't get to return to Willy T's on Sunday. The race committee got in 3 races on Friday, 4 on the Saturday and 2 on Sunday. We were classed with some smaller boats that always beat us on handicap, but out on the water we had some close racing with Mermaid II, who after teh first race of not knowing which course we were doing dramatically improved, Crescendo, Swan 44 from the States was also there, Scott and the team know them form home so we had fun times with them.
Poor Dani agreed to come racing on Saturday, Tuesday had been her first day sailing ever. By race 3 on Saturday we were all quite tired and when they announced race number 4 I think she hit her limit on enjoying the day, she was great though and helped me in the pit where I spent Friday and Sunday on my own. I did try to persuade Jonathan to come out on Sunday but Bena is his sister and they rarely see each other as they live on opposite coasts so I decided not too push it. As I'd hate to have another not so happy crew member if they put another 4 races on.
Now we really want to go and race in the States, Block Island Week sounds like it would be great fun. And we can't wait to get to Bermuda and venture to The Swizzle Inn.
