We arrived in Lanzarote just over a week ago, giving us just over 2 weeks until the start of the RAC, Rubicon Antigua Challenge. Arriving in Marina Rubicon was very exciting, the complex is now n place although still empty but the basics are all done, pontoons are laid with just a few still left to be fitted. We are really impressed its come a long way in the last year, its really tasteful in all its design. We arrived at night so it wasn't until the morning that we checked in with the office. It was great to see Karen, still smiling and she gave us a really great welcome, then the marin guys came over to fill us up with diesel and helped us into our berth.
Last year all seemed a little hectic and trying to fit all the socialising in and complete the job list was quite a challenge. So this time we rented a car on our arrival and have shopped until we dropped, the boat is bursting with food and bottled water, now all I have to do is buy the fresh produce next Friday and pick up the chinese takeaway for our first night at sea! All sounds a little too perfect!
Having done this trip twice already, my preparation is defiantly improving and the menu is growing! Cake & Bread mixes are the two things I never like to leave without, I find these easier to stock in the UK as the instructions are in English! Storing all the food is always a fun task and I'm learning which holes are easier to access at sea!
The crew consists of myself & Matt, Dom, owner of a Sigma 38 kept up the Hambler River, we met him over the summer at home and he raced with us for the Beneteau Cup & Cowes Week, Kate, owner of a Sigma 33 that is kept on the Clyde, we haven't yet met but is a friend of Tash who came across on ARC Antigua last year with us, & David, owner of a Grand Soleil 46.3 kept in Hamble, we have only spoken to him on the phone, he was introduced to us by another boat, we have already found one thing we all have in common! The crew are arriving through the week, giving themsleves a little time to familiarise themselves with us and the boat.
Dom is curretnly at the airport delayed, which means he's now going to miss tonight's Happy Hour.
We had a surprise visit from Ian who was in the Caribbean on Which Doctor last season. He delivered Oystercatcher down here for the RAC so we've been chatting about what everyone else is up to!
